The realities of modern software development — with frequent release cycles and applications that contain hundreds of different open source components — have led most organizations to pursue automation for managing SBOMs, open source vulnerabilities, and open source license compliance.
Unfortunately, many of the SCA (software composition analysis) and SBOM management tools on the market today weren’t designed for smaller organizations or individual teams within larger organizations. While free and open source tools can work well for basic tasks, fully supported SCA and SBOM management tools with more complete feature sets tend to be either:
- Very hard to implement, often requiring dedicated engineering resources to get to value
- Cost-prohibitive, with pricing intended primarily for enterprise buyers with hefty security budgets
At FOSSA, we’ve always prided ourselves on being fast and easy to implement. But, historically, our pricing structure hasn’t necessarily included tiers that work for every type of team and organization.
That’s why we’re excited to announce our new business tier — the same best-in-class open source and SBOM management, the same ease-of-use, but with far greater pricing flexibility.
Why FOSSA Business Tier?
Over the last half-decade, we’ve seen a significant increase in the number of organizations prioritizing software supply chain security and transparency. From small startups to established enterprises, understanding and managing supply chain risks has become an increasingly mission-critical activity.
But while many organizations are devoting additional mindshare to these SBOM, vulnerability management, and license compliance initiatives, budgets and bandwidth remain tight — especially for smaller teams and organizations.
In recent months, we’ve received a lot of feedback from these smaller teams that use (or want to use) FOSSA about the need for pricing flexibility and a low-friction, self-service product experience.
Our new business tier is built for this purpose. It offers multiple different subscription levels, designed for the needs of small- and medium-sized teams and organizations that are looking for a self-serve but fully featured FOSSA experience.
Business tier is also an effective option for teams and organizations that have existing SCA and/or SBOM tools in place — but need additional functionality to fill in gaps. Even full-featured SCA and SBOM management platforms sometimes lack capabilities like comprehensive language coverage, regulatory reporting, and complete open source license compliance policy management. Business tier’s flexible pricing and easy implementation make it a logical add-on if your team or organization is in this position.
Getting Started with Business Tier
FOSSA’s business tier offers five different subscription levels as shown in the image below.
The easiest way to figure out if the business tier is right for your organization is to take advantage of a 14-day free trial. During the trial, you can upgrade to a monthly or annual subscription of FOSSA to continue your usage beyond the 14-day mark. To upgrade your subscription during a trial, click on “Current Plan” under the account menu in the top right. From there, you’ll be brought to the “Plans” page, where you can upgrade to a business plan tier of your choosing.
For Existing Free Tier Users
If you already have a FOSSA account, you can sign up for the 14-day free trial of the business tier by clicking on “Current Plan” under your account menu in the top right, and then clicking on the “Start 14-Day Trial Today” on the “Plans” page.
For New FOSSA Users
First, sign up for a free FOSSA account by visiting our website. Our free tier is a great way to start with FOSSA’s vulnerability management, license compliance, and SBOM features. Once you’ve gotten comfortable with the platform — and if you find that you would benefit from expanded access — follow the steps outlined in the previous section to claim your free trial of our business tier.
Like we mentioned earlier, there are five different subscription levels offered within the business tier. All free trials will automatically have access to “Business - XL” (the business tier subscription level with the highest limits). To determine the right business tier level for your permanent account, we recommend visiting our pricing page. This will allow you to compare and contrast different price points and feature limits.
